The Côte Vermeille is the last stretch of French coast before Spain, all folded schist and terraced vineyards running straight down to the water. We took the morning slowly along it, under a lid of cloud that never quite broke.
Grey light flattens a coast like this, so I stopped looking for colour and started looking for shape: the pines on the headland, the track cutting through the vines, the rock going into the sea in hard diagonal folds. The last frame is the one I kept coming back to, a single yacht a long way out with the whole sea gone to pewter around it.
Base ISO throughout. On a flat day the camera has nothing to fight, and the restraint suits the place.
