The other half of a garden is the green that holds it together between the flowers, and this trip had plenty of it worth stopping for. A jade plant, thick-leaved and slightly red at the stem, sat against a warm wall in exactly the light it wanted.
The araucaria was the better find. One branch reaching out across the frame, the tight scaled foliage catching the light against the shade behind it, structure doing what colour usually does.
Leaves reward the same patience as flowers and ask for less. Just the shape, the light, and a plain background to let them read.
