Every beach has its pier, and the pier is the most photographed thing on the beach, so the only honest way to shoot it is to refuse the obvious angle and keep walking around it until it becomes something else.
From the front it is a silhouette, legs black against the afterglow and doubled in the wet sand. Underneath, it turns into a corridor of pilings pulling your eye to a bright square of sea at the end. Then from the boardwalk itself, later, strung with little lights as the blue hour came down and the thing stopped being a structure and became a route out over the dark water.
All on the 55, ISO 400 up to 6400 across three evenings as the light went. One subject, worked until it gave up more than one picture.
