Another dusk, quieter than the rainbow one. The tide had left the sand flat and smooth, and a single footprint sat in it slowly filling with water, already half erased. The whole beach in one small thing: you leave a mark, the sea takes it back on a schedule that has nothing to do with you.
Off the beach a dhow lay anchored, mast bare, exactly where a dhow belongs in a sunset frame. I took it both ways. In colour it keeps the warm band of the sky; in black and white it drops to a dark shape on bright water, which is closer to what a boat at dusk actually is.
All on the 55, ISO 100 to 1600. Small subjects, low light, the day winding all the way down. The kind of evening where the best thing to photograph is whatever the tide is doing.
