The day closed at the pond. By dusk the wind had dropped and the water went to glass, which is when Kenrokuen does the thing it is most photographed for: the yukitsuri cones standing over the pines and printed straight back down into the pond, the sky behind them turning pink.
I worked it three ways. A lantern glowing warm in the trees first, then the wide view with the row of cones, a couple walking the path, the whole scene doubled. Then in close on a single cone with the sunset caught in the reflection, reeds at my feet. That last one is the keeper.
ISO stayed low while the sky still held light, up to 1600 only for the wider, darker frame. A quiet way to leave the garden.
