The end of the day spent up on the Higashiyama slope, watching it go. The first frame is the sun still in it, lighting the underside of the cloud over the wooded ridges, a bird crossing right through the gold. Quiet, warm, the last of it.

Forty minutes later the warmth had gone and the weather had won. The second frame is the city at dusk under a heavy purple lid of cloud, the lights coming up across the plain and Kyoto Tower lit on the skyline, the one bright vertical in all that grey. The break of light over the hills on the left was the only thing left of the sunset.

The sunset sat at base ISO 64; the dusk frame needed 12800 to hold the city against the dark. Two ends of the same hour, the X2D good for both.
