Two distances on the same building. The first frame is right under the eaves, where the joinery is painted up in blue and green and gold inside all that vermilion, a small riot of colour you only see if you stop and look straight up. It sat in shade, so ISO 3200, but the colour carried it.
Then the long view. The pagoda stands on its ridge with the whole of Kyoto laid out below and the hills behind, and the afternoon had left a bank of weather hanging over them that the low sun was lighting from underneath. A bird crossed it as I shot. The third frame steps back in close again: the pagoda clean against the evening sky, maples just starting to turn around its base.
The 55 for all three, base ISO where the light held and up to 3200 in the shade of the bracket. The light did most of the rest.
