A slow loop through Yasaka before the day filled up. The main hall is the big draw, one enormous cypress-bark roof pulled over the whole thing in the old Gion style, vermilion and gold underneath. I shot it square on with the prayer-reception signs still in frame, since pretending the working shrine isn't a working shrine never feels right.
The couple were the morning's quiet centre: formal dress, a red bench, the two of them reading a fortune slip together with the kind of attention you only give it when the day matters. I kept my distance and let them have it.
The frame I went back to is the chozuya, the purification basin, where the bamboo spout has been running so long the moss has taken the whole base and a fern has set up at the lip. Water, stone, moss, nothing else. Base ISO held it down to the texture.
