Last morning of the trip, spent at the steam railway that runs up from the foot of the lake. The preserved line still works a short stretch of valley, and there is not much that pulls you back to childhood faster than the smell of hot oil and coal smoke on a station platform.

The first frame is the one I wanted: the engine eased in under the old iron footbridge, steam going straight up in the still air, and the driver leaning right out of the cab to check the road ahead. All maroon and black, framed by the ironwork and the green cutting behind.

The second is the cleaner record shot, loco 46441 side-on so the number reads. Both on the 55 at f/8, and a good, unhurried note to end the four days on.
