The houses are the part of a boma that stays with you. Low, walled in mud and dung over a frame of sticks, roofed in thatch, built small and dark on purpose against the heat and the flies. From outside you get the doorway, a figure standing in the one bright opening with the black of the interior behind them.

Then you duck inside and your eyes take a while to arrive. Two rooms, barely, lit by a single window the size of a hand, the family arranged around the dark. It is close and smoky and completely sensible once you have felt the sun outside.

All on the 55. The doorway frames are ISO 200; inside drops to ISO 1600 on the light of that one small window, which is all there is. I kept the doorway in colour and mono and the interior the same, because the whole subject here is the line between the bright outside and the dark within.
