Elder with a staff

A step to the side from the last portrait, the same elder with his staff. Side-on this time, the staff held in both hands, which changes the whole set of a person. A man standing with something to lean on stands differently than a man standing with nothing.

The staff is not a prop here, it is the thing he actually carries, and you can read that in how ordinary it is to him. That is the difference between a portrait that works and one that does not: whether the object in the hands belongs there.
