Yesterday's acacia and volcano were two separate frames. This is the version where the long lens does the work, pulling the cone down until it sits directly behind the tree and the two shapes share a picture.
That compression is the whole point. Standing far enough back and reaching in with the 135, the distance between tree and mountain collapses, and the acacia stops being a foreground and becomes a mark against the volcano's flank.
Both are the 135 at base ISO 64. In colour you get the ash streaks and the green of the crown; in black and white it goes graphic, the tree a black silhouette on the pale cone. Ol Doinyo Lengai [confirm] again, closer than it looks.
