Some views you take because they are the view. The flat-topped acacia alone on the plain is the first, the shape every idea of this landscape is built on, and it earns the frame anyway.

A minute later the plain opened onto the volcano, its ash-streaked cone standing over the rift like it owns the place, which more or less it does. Two frames, a step apart, the tree and the mountain that sits behind all of this.

Both are the 55 at base ISO 64 in the last of the light. That cone is Ol Doinyo Lengai [confirm: the active carbonatite volcano above Lake Natron], and the plain in front of it was already going gold when we passed.
