Down on the floor the crater does its trick of putting everything in one frame. A zebra grazed the pale edge of the soda lake, and behind it a line of flamingos ran off into the haze, two animals that have nothing to do with each other sharing a shoreline.

The kori bustard was working the grass a little further on, one of the heaviest flying birds there is, though it spends most of its time walking and looking like it would rather not bother with the flying part.

Both on the 135, base ISO to 200, stopped right down for the glare off the lake. The whole point of Ngorongoro is the density: a walled floor small enough that the flamingos, the zebra and the bustard are all in the same short stretch of morning.
