The hard thing about Ngorongoro is scale. Standing on the floor you are inside a bowl a dozen miles across, and no single frame really holds it. The wall just keeps going, around and around the whole horizon, however you point the camera.
The raptor helped. Something to hang the sky on, turning overhead while the crater wall ran behind it, so the picture has a near thing and a far thing instead of just a lot of distance. The panorama is the honest attempt at the whole bowl, wall to wall.
