Ngorongoro announces itself before you are in it. A candelabra euphorbia stands on the rim like a marker, and behind it the whole crater floor drops away, a bowl of green and gold with a pale soda lake at the bottom.
The road down is its own thing, old cobbles cut into the wall, steep enough that the vehicle takes it slowly. I shot the descent from inside, the wing mirror in the corner of the frame giving away exactly where I was and how far there still was to go.
The euphorbia and the vista are the 135 and 55 at base ISO 64. The floor of a collapsed volcano, walled in on every side, which is why everything that lives down there mostly stays down there.
