Up inside the keep and out onto the deck, where the building stops being the subject and the city takes over. The light had gone properly gold by four, Osaka running flat and low all the way to the Ikoma mountains, the office towers and the one big dark tower catching it.
The detail I went up for is in the corner of the first frame: one of the golden shachihoko, the tiger-fish ornaments that ride the ends of the castle roof. From the ground they are tiny silhouettes against the sky. From up here one of them sits right at the edge of the frame, level with the skyline it has watched fill in over a century.
Both at base ISO 64 through glass, the 55 long enough to pull the far buildings in against the hills. Two days after the night view from Umeda, the same city, completely rebuilt by daylight.
