First night in Osaka, walking out into Umeda. The first frame is the plaza in front of Osaka Station, the street trees and low pillars lit a flat electric purple. The Christmas illuminations had just gone up, mid-November, and the whole forecourt had turned that colour over an almost empty road. It reads as staged, but that was simply the city dressing itself for the season.
Round the corner, the other version. The crowd was out by Hankyu Men's and the cinemas, the same festive dressing running in red lights along the curved facade, green walk signals glowing, a long rank of bicycles packed along the railing in the foreground. Same two minutes, completely different temperature.
Both handheld and pushed, ISO 6400 then 3200, which the X2D will hand you at night without much fuss. No tripod, just what the streetlights and the illuminations were already giving.
