The Umeda Sky Building is two towers joined at the top by a ring, and the best view of it is from directly underneath, looking up the gap between them. At night the ring goes gold, the diagonal escalators and the glass sky bridge cross the void, and the whole thing reads more like a machine than a building. I shot it straight up the throat of it.
Then up to the top, where the ring is the observation deck and the point of the exercise becomes the city. Osaka at night is mostly low and dark with bright towers scattered through it, an elevated expressway curving across the middle in a thread of light. Less a skyline than a field.
The look-up needed ISO 12800 at 1/60, about as far as I will push handheld; the view from the top sat easier at 6400 with the deck to brace against. Worth the lift.
