For about a century Majorca was its own kingdom, and Perpignan was its capital on the mainland. The palace they built sits on a rise in the middle of the city, a fortress on the outside and a court on the inside, which is a lot of history for a place you reach by climbing a long brick ramp past a single pine.

The courtyard is the heart of it: two tiers of stone galleries, a bell tower, and everything arranged around a central well of light. I spent most of my time here just working the arches, letting a figure cross the paving to give the scale away.

The last frame is the one I set out to make, the chapel front caught through a Gothic arch so the arch does the framing for you. More of the inside tomorrow.
