A fortress this size is really a small walled town, built to keep a garrison alive through a siege that might run for months. Inside the walls at Salses that logic is everywhere: ovens cut into the stone, storerooms, stables, and a courtyard with its own well so the water supply could never be cut.
The brick does the work and the seeing. Arcade after arcade of it, the same arch repeated until it runs off into the dark, warm pink against the grey cobbles. I kept following those receding lines with the camera; a corridor that ends in shadow always pulls the eye down it.
The oven room was dark enough to need ISO 6400, which on this camera is a shrug. The courtyard, open to the sky, dropped straight back to base.
