Birds are how I fill the flat middle stretch of a drive, when the big animals are asleep and the light is still too high. The tawny eagle sat long enough for a portrait on its mound, then opened its wings to leave and gave me the frame that was actually worth waiting for.
The superb starling is almost too much colour for one small bird, iridescent blue and green over an orange belly, the sort of thing you would call overdone if a person had painted it. That one was worth stopping the vehicle for on its own. The last frame is another coming in to land, wings back, feet down.
All on the 135, ISO 100 up to 1600 as the afternoon wore on. Wingbeats need the shutter kept high, so the ISO climbs whether you want it to or not.
