Zebra are almost too obvious an argument for black and white. All that pattern, the ready-made graphic, the temptation to strip the colour and let the stripes carry it. So of course I did that. But the morning grass was gold in a way the mono throws away, so the colour frame stays too.

It is the same second, the same herd, two different pictures depending on what you decide the subject is. In one it is the light on the plain. In the other it is the animal as a pattern, which is what a zebra always half is.
