A short flight took us from the dust of Tarangire to the salt of Zanzibar, and Stone Town is a different kind of shock: coral-stone lanes too narrow for cars, carved doors, the sea always one turn away and the smell of it everywhere.

The first walk is the one where you take too many pictures because everything is new. A blue house with a carved window, the paint going the way all the paint here goes. A woman resting by the harbour in a dress the colour of the fruit carts. A painted cafe front, and then the old colonnade on the seafront where the sea shows through the arches.

All on the 55, base ISO to 400. None of it composed with any knowledge of the place, just a first lap with the shutter, before I had any idea where the good corners were.
