Two ways of being a woman working in Stone Town, a few streets apart. The first is three of them behind a bar, one with an arm thrown around another, all of them laughing at something I did not catch. The kind of frame you get one shot at, in a dark room, and either the moment is there or it is gone.

The second is a woman out on the street selling stacked plastic containers, sitting on the ground against a white wall with her stock built up around her. Quieter, more composed, the wall behind her doing as much work as she is. I took her tight and wide, and in colour and mono, trying to work out which version let the wall breathe without losing her.

The three at the bar are the 55 dragged to ISO 6400 in the gloom; the vendor is base ISO 200 out in the street. Loud and quiet, the same town, the same afternoon.
