Tarangire is as much an elephant park as a baobab one, and in the dry season the two facts are related: the elephants know where the water is, and by September there is not much of it, so they concentrate. You do not have to look hard.
The family with the two calves was the one to stay with. The little ones kept dead centre, walled in by the adults on every side, the whole group moving at the pace of the smallest legs. Down at the water another group drank, and one more crossed the track in front of us on its own schedule, which is the only schedule an elephant keeps.
All on the 135, base ISO to 200. The calves are the picture; everything the adults do out here is arranged around keeping them in the middle, and it shows in how the group moves.
