First thing on the second morning, a small garden built around a pond. Mid-November, so the color was only just arriving: one maple gone orange on the near shore, a ginkgo turning yellow behind. Overcast, no wind, the water holding everything upside down.
What I like about these city gardens is that they don't pretend the city isn't there. Apartments in the first frame, a big curved-roof concrete building in the second, both allowed to stand right at the edge of the hedge. The garden does its quiet thing anyway.
This is Kyu-Yasuda garden in Ryogoku, the big curved building behind it the gymnasium. The first frame ran ISO 1600 in the flat morning light; the second dropped to 800 as it opened up.
