They were near the outer garden, kimono clearly rented for the day, and when I gestured at the camera they stopped and gave me a moment without fuss. Two friends, two obi, taupe and gold against teal and pink, the pines doing the work behind them.
What I like is the phone. One of them keeps it down at her side, half hidden in the fold of a sleeve, and it is the one thing in the frame that won't pretend to be from another era. The dress is centuries old; the grip on the phone is entirely now.
Shot on the 55 at f/8 and base ISO 64 for clean skin tones, which left me at 1/25 of a second. Slow for handheld, but they held still and so did I. This was in the Imperial Palace outer garden.
